RE-INTRODUCING
TRUSS
Toronto artist Truss is a master of versatility- a singer, rapper, writer, producer, and audio engineer all rolled into one. Raised in Brampton, Ontario, Truss fell in love with music at an early age, singing in church choir as young as 4 years old. Truss continued his passion for music and by age 13 had taught himself to play the piano.
In 2014, Truss released his debut mixtape All Day Breakfast, followed by his first EP Sweet Tooth (2015) and first full-length album Cavity (2016), which featured Toronto rappers A. Harmony and pHoenix Pagliacci.
In 2016, Truss released his first full-length album Cavity, expanding on his ability to write, record and produce a full body of work alone from start to finish. The album also featured Toronto rappers A. Harmony, pHoenix Pagliacci, and more.
Truss released Root Canal in 2017, his latest project to date. Shortly thereafter, Truss gained a newfound confidence, becoming open and honest about his music as well as his identity. Putting his health first, Truss continued to develop his skills and sense of self, prioritizing his transition and going back to school.
Truss attended Trebas for the audio engineering program in 2017, the same year he formed R&B/Hip-Hop band TRP.P (pronounced “trippy”).
In 2021, Truss composed original music for Award-winning TV series “Sort Of”. This experience paved the way for other collaborative songwriting opportunities, including song camps with Canadian music publishers Daytripper, as well as landing a sync on Director X’s critically acclaimed TV series “Robyn Hood”. Truss also had his song selected to be the festival theme song for The 34th Annual Toronto 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival “Inside Out”.
In 2022, TRP.P was invited to open for JUNO award-winning rapper Shad’s TAO tour. The tour appeared in cities such as Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. That same year, Truss traveled to Brazil to perform at Festival COMA, his first of many international appearances. The reception was so overwhelmingly positive that Truss was invited to return the following year to perform at Brazil’s Favela Sounds, solidifying his international appeal. Truss would go on to perform at New Skool Rules in The Netherlands that same year.
Since the start of his career in 2014, Truss has performed at festivals across Canada, including Kazoo! Fest (Kitchener), M for Montreal, River & Sky, Fresh Up Fest (Hamilton), Toronto Pride, Capital Pride (Ottawa), Soundtrack Festival (Edmonton), Pique (Ottawa) and Junofest (Halifax).
He has also graced stages at some of Canada’s most iconic venues, such as The El Mocambo, The Opera House, Revival, Axis Club (formerly The Mod Club), National Arts Centre (Ottawa), Garrison and The Baby G.
With all of these stages under his belt, Truss is finally ready for his solo return to the forefront, feeling more comfortable in his voice and even more confident in his sound, thanks to collaborating with friends and mentors. Gaining insight and expertise through various experiences such as workshop facilitation and sync opportunities, Truss continues to prove his capabilities. Truss draws his inspiration from the likes of Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, J Dilla, Pharrell, Timbaland, and most recently producers such as Monte Booker, Conductor Williams, and emil.
